About :
Common Proficiency Test (CPT) is an entry level test for the Chartered Accountancy (CA) course conducted by The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
Eligibility :
A student who has passed the Class 10 examination conducted by an examining body constituted by law in India (or an examination recognized by the Central Government as equivalent thereto) may register for Common Proficiency Test.
A registered student may appear in Common Proficiency Test after he has appeared in the Senior Secondary Examination* (10+2 examination) conducted by an examining body constituted by law in India (or an examination recognized by the Central Government as equivalent thereto) and has complied with such requirements as may be specified by the Council from time to time.
A student who has got himself registered for Common Proficiency Test 60 days prior to the first day of the month in which CPT examination is to be held i.e. on or before 1st April and 1st October, can appear in the CPT examination to be held in June and December respectively. Common Proficiency Test examinations are held in June & December every year.
The exam is conducted twice a year in June and December.

Common Proficiency Course (CPC) registration is valid for 3 years and can be revalidated any number of times for further 3 years period by paying revalidation fee of Rs. 300/- or as decided by the Council from time to time.
Format
- SESSION I (Two sections, 100 marks)
- Section A: Fundamentals of Accounting (60 marks)
- Section B: Mercantile Laws (40 marks)
- SESSION II (Two sections, two hours, 100 marks)
- Section C: General Economics (50 marks)
- Section D: Quantitative Aptitude (50 marks)
- A CPT candidate shall be declared to have passed the test if he obtains at one sitting a minimum of 30% marks in each section and a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all the sections, subject to the principle of negative marking.
Test duration
- Session 1 (Morning): 2 hrs.
- Session 2 (Afternoon): 2 hrs.

- A student can register and make the fee payment online through the official website of ICAI
Mode of Test
- Common Proficiency Test will be an objective type multiple choice questions based examination. Candidates will be allowed to opt for Hindi medium Question Paper Booklet for answering the questions.
Exam Location
- The examination will be held across 164 cities across India, provided that sufficient number of candidates offer themselves to appear from each centre. Further, the examination will also be held at 5 overseas exam centres.
