With the civic elections scheduled to be held in February next year, city teachers have demanded that those teaching class X and XII be exempted from poll duty as the board exam will be around the corner at that time.

However, teachers said that there is a lot of preparation to be done ahead of the exams and hence they need an exemption. Shikshak Parishad, a teachers' group, has written to the state election body and the education board in this regard. “In February, secondary teachers, especially those teaching class X and XII, have a lot of exam-related work,” said Anil Bornare of the Shikshak Parishad.
