With December setting in, most parents are looking at pre-schools and scrutinising them before making a choice for their toddlers. A recent nationwide survey has ranked Kangaroo Kids in Chembur, Podar Jumbo Kids in Khar and Besant Montessori School in Juhu as the top pre-schools in the city .

The schools were ranked in two categories depending on the nature of ownership. Among the franchise-based pre-schools, the Kangaroo Kids branch in Chembur ranked first followed by EuroKids, Lokhandwala and Podar Jumbo Kids, Andheri (E) both in the second position. “We only expand as far as we can control the quality . We have a very strong central team that monitors teacher training, daily action plans etc for all our centres to ensure that everyone is on the same page,“ said Lina Ashar, chairperson of Kangaroo Kids.

Podar Jumbo Kids, Khar and Besant Montessori School, Juhu were ranked as the best in the proprietary category , which are stand-alone schools. Founded in 1948, the school follows the Montessori model. “Our philosophy is very child-centric and hence we have been able to do things that are best for our students and that is what made us popular. Getting dedicated teachers on board is another important aspect,“ said Arundhati Chaudary , head of the Montessori section. The school also held the top spot last year.Kangaroo Kids, Bandra came in second and Podar Jumbo Kids, Andheri (W) and Leapbridge International Pre-school, Sion were tied at the third position.

Management at Podar Jumbo Kids feels quality of preschools largely depends on teachers and innovations. The annual survey by the EducationWorld India Preschool Rankings 2016 rated and ranked 410 selected preschools in 16 cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata etc. The schools are ranked on 10 parameters, including teacher competence, safety and hygiene, leadership, innovative teaching, value for money , parental involvement, special needs education and infrastructure.
