The state is considering setting up a `signal school' in Mumbai to educate street children. The state has also decided to form a panel to suggest measures to tackle the issue.

The signal school initiative was started by the Thane Municipal Corporation with help from NGO Samarth Bharat Vyaspeeth. CM Devendra Fadnavis said, “We will study the Thane signal school and will consider implementing it in other cities.“

BJP MLA Amit Satam had raised the issue in the assembly.

BJP MLA Ashish Shelar also demanded that the state instruct BMC to set up signal schools in Mumbai. “The previous government had allotted a plot to a developer for a beggars' home eight years ago, but it was never built,“ he said. Fadnavis assured that the state government will look into the matter
