The Vithalwadi police in Ulhasnagar have booked the headmaster of a school for misusing funds to the tune of Rs 12 lakh collected from students. The case was registered after a court order directed the police to file an FIR and conduct a probe. The police said accused Rajendra Rane worked as headmaster of the National School, run by Oriental Education Trust.

In the complaint, it is alleged that Rane misused funds collected from students for tuition fees and other charges over the past six years and failed to deposit these into the school's account.

The police said the school management came to know about the corruption during audit of accounts. When authorities questioned Rane about the irregularities, he failed to give any proper answers.

The school management then moved a local court, which directed the police to register an offence in this regard and submit the probe report within two months.
